Statement,
In October 2022, an encounter with an old Christian led to a four-month stay in Nagasaki from October last year, working as a live-in worker in Unzen City, after meeting with an old Christian ledger in the open sea.
The old Christian faith is still being lost over time. Relying on local reports and literature, and guided by a Christian descendant, I travelled around Nagasaki's constituent assets and other places as if I were on a trip during my holidays. In the absence of missionaries, the religious beliefs that had been nurtured were diverse and unique in each region, and I felt that traditions were closed off because of their unique forms. However, the landscape that exists there is an unchanging and open space.
Why is the old Christian faith being lost in modern society?
Photography is not only about documentation.I hope that society will question its religious traditions through the context of each image.
